volumeBreaker is a volumetric geometry fracturing tool that will instantly create sub-geometry within any mesh - geometry that perfectly fits together and fills any given volume. volumeBreaker can be applied to virtually any mesh you can create in 3ds Max, including meshes that are 'lazy' and not a fully enclosed volume.  volumeBreaker includes algorithms that intelligently attempt to compensate for any errors within the mesh, errors such as unwelded vertices and open edges that can be the result of sloppy modelling or due to importing from CAD software or other sources.

The sub-geometry, that volumeBreaker creates, is composed of individual elements within the parent mesh, accessible by applying an Edit Poly or Edit Mesh modifier on top of volumeBreaker which allows the user to further modify and control the end result.

 


volumeBreaker SP3 New Features

This latest release includes all of the enhancements found in previous Service Packs. Installing the latest service pack, SP3, will replace all previous installs. With the release of Service Pack 3, overall product stability is greatly enhanced. Previous problematic geometry with defective triangles and open edges, found in SP2, are now more easily managed and will not cause system hangs.

Preservation of mapping coordinates: All of the original mesh's UVW mapping coordinates are preserved and the newly created interior geometry can be assigned a separate material ID and mapping as well.

Preserves nested and hollow geometry: volumeBreaker will recognize if a mesh has interior space and will preserve those 'holes'.

Bricks: volumeBreaker will not only break your geometry into irregular shaped fragments but can also fragment it into a regular brick pattern. Perfect for instant brick walls.

Clumping: volumeBreaker can 'clump' the generated cells together, creating even more variation in size and shape for your fragments.

100% Multi-threaded: volumeBreaker will use all of the available processing power of your PC and scales with the number of processors in your system; twice the number of processors will allow volumeBreaker to perform twice as fast.

Works on 2D surfaces: The volumeBreaker modifier may also be applied to 2D planes/surfaces as well, this is useful for simulating thin sheets of glass for example.

This latest enhancement introduced in volumeBreaker SP3 is a big step forward, allowing the user to easier create more life-like demolition effects.

volumeBreaker SP3 is offered as a free download to every registered customer. Current users of volumeBreaker should Login to my.cebas.com and obtain the latest SP3 Service Pack from their "View Product Registrations," my.cebas.com Account menu. Registered users will automatically see all of their available download options.

 

Service Pack 2

This latest release includes all of the enhancements found in previous Service Packs. Service Pack 2 offers more stability and an enhanced Explicit Surface Normal method, which literally "burns" the original face normals, right into the "broken" outer shell faces. Applying volumeBreaker to any mesh will no longer create broken smoothing on the outer shell surface. Considerable amount of research and development was accomplished to ensure the best possible compatibility with the 3ds Max specific tools; as not every 3ds Max mesh editing tool is able to properly handle explicit surface normals. Many tools in 3ds Max are not able to handle surface normals properly. This new feature introduced in volumeBreaker SP2 is a big step forward, allowing the user to create easier and more life like demolition effects.

Licensing

All CEBAS product licenses are floating licenses.  CEBAS product downloads include floating license manager. 

If running on a single workstation, you can install the license manager on it alongside the main application.

The installer that is downloaded includes installation options for license manager, Plug-in and render node.

For network licenses you must install the license manager on your license server first then activate your key on the license server.  After that you can install the Plug-in on your 3ds Max workstation, launch 3ds Max and access the plug-in from within. When you first attempt to use the Plug-in you will be prompted to activate or give a license server host name. Once you enter your license server info you will be able to use the plugin.

For render nodes, follow the same steps above for the workstation, after you have successfully accessed the plugin from within 3ds Max on the render node, shutdown 3ds Max and your done.
