New Features in mocha Pro 4

Python API

New to mocha Pro version 4 is a Python scripting API.

With Python, mocha Pro customers and VFX facilities can create their own scripts and better integrate with production tools for asset management, scheduling software or background rendering.

Export to Adobe Premiere Pro CC Masks

mocha 4 products have been updated to now support roto mask export to Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014. With a simple copy and paste workflow, Premiere editors can now import multi-layered mocha masks into any effect. Used for isolating color correction, blurs and more.

Adobe Premiere Pro export is now found in both mocha Pro and mocha Plus.

Export to NukeTracker Node

New to mocha Pro version 4 is NukeTracker node export.

Now VFX artists using NUKE and NUKE X from The Foundry can choose to export mocha’s planar tracking directly to the tracker node with a simple, copy & paste.

mocha Pro also exports corner pin, transform, roto masks and 3D camera tracking to Nuke.

Stereo 3D Remove

A major change to mocha Pro’s workflow is being able to choose between working on mono or stereoscopic projects.
You can now import stereo 3D views and track, roto and render, then export back to stereo.

mocha Pro’s Remove Module has been updated to now support object removal and clean plating on stereo 3D footage.

Stereo 3D Rotoscoping

Keyboard Shortcut Customization

mocha version 4 products introduce a new feature for users to customize their keyboard shortcuts.

Users can easily customize and save keyboard settings. Profiles for Adobe After Effects and The Foundry’s Nuke are included.

Keyboard shortcut is now found in mocha Pro and mocha Plus.

  • Streamlined Interface
    • We have changed a number of things in the mocha interface to streamline workflow.
    • Retina Support
      • We are converting the interface over to full Retina support for OS X. This will result in a crisper look for those on recent Apple systems.
    • Icon and Button Changes
      • We have consolidated a number of icons into single buttons to reduce interface clutter:
        • New Buttons: Buttons have been given an overhaul to reduce clutter.
        • View Control Buttons: The majority of View Control buttons have dropped the arrow in favor of the click and hold action.
  • Workflow changes
    • New Project-Based Structure
    • Previously all projects were based off the initial clip you imported, which made it harder to import other clips or modify existing settings. The new project structure has the Project Settings dialog which allows you to modify the project independently from the clips you import. This means you can now open a project file to view layer content without needing to relink footage.
  • Stereo Workflow
    • A major change to mocha’s workflow is being able to choose between working on mono or stereo projects.
    • You can now import stereo views and track, render and export back to stereo.
    • You can switch between Views by pressing the corresponding L|R buttons in the view controls, or using the default 1 and 2 keys on the keyboard.
    • The Clip tab has had an overhaul to accommodate handling multiple footage streams in a single mocha clip.
    • Clips now by default are in two parts: The container clip and a stream clip. Clips can contain any number of footage streams, which you can then map to a view.
    • If you are dealing with multi-channel clips such as EXR files, these load automatically into the stream drop down.
    • If you are working with individual views (TIF, DPX, JPG etc), you can import the additional footage streams using the import dialog under the streams dropdown.
    • You can preview your work at any time by turning on the 3D button in the view controls.
    • Stereo 3D View Options
      • Interlaced: Each view is show on every other line in fields
      • Active: If you have an active shutter monitor available, you can view in this mode
      • Anaglyph: Probably the most common mode to view stereo work through. You can choose from Red/Cyan or Green/Magenta
      • Difference: A difference mode of the views laid over each other. This view also has additional functionality explained below
    • Exporting Stereo Rendered Shapes, tracks, and Clips
  • New Export Formats
    • In addition to exporting to Stereo format, we have added new export data formats.
    • Tracking Data Export Changes:
    • New Nuke 7 Tracker: In the past mocha only exported either the Corner Pin or the ascii tracking file formats. You can now export directly to the Tracker node instead.
    • Adobe After Effects Transform Data: This version now no longer exports the anchor point data to reduce confusion about how to use the export. If you need to stabilise instead of matching motion, you can use the "invert" checkbox in the export dialog.
  • Shape Data Export Changes:
    • New Adobe Premiere Pro CC Mask format: You can now export and paste to Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014
    • New Nuke v6.2+ RotoPaint [Transform & Shape]: RotoPaint now exports with separate key frames for Tracking and Roto, like the Roto export does
      • Nuke RotoPaint [Basic]: The is the same export as we had previously with combined tracking and roto keys into one file. We have renamed it to make a clear distinction from the other export.
      • New Nuke Roto [Basic]: We have reintroduced Nuke Roto export with combined tracking and roto keys into one file. This is to support those on versions of Nuke below 6.2.
      • Nuke v6.2+ Roto [Transform & Shape]: The same Nuke 6.2 Roto as we had previously. We have renamed it to make a clear distinction from the other export.
  • Python Support
    • We now support Python in mocha Pro via the mocha module. Python functionality will have its own separate documentation. On Windows, Python installs as a separate bundle in the mocha Pro installer. Make sure to select it when installing on Windows systems.
  • Keyboard Shortcut Customization
    • You can now customize keyboard shortcuts for almost every tool, action and menu item in mocha Pro 4.0.0.

Features

Planar Tracking

When other trackers fail, users turn to mocha's rock solid tracking.

mocha’s 2.5D planar motion tracking engine accurately follows translation, scale, rotation, skew and perspective. Unlimited tracking layers handle reflections, obstructed and blurred objects, even areas with low detail. The AdjustTrack module and overlay tools help solve tracking challenges with pixel-perfect accuracy.

Advanced Roto Tools

Create animated roto masks with less keyframes.

X-spline and Bezier creation tools are purposely designed for artists to easily create detailed roto shapes. When linked to mocha’s planar tracking, roto shapes inherit motion and perspective, dramatically reducing manual keyframe work. Advanced tools for shape editing include per-point edge feathering, join layers tool, transform tool, group layers and more making mocha the ideal system for rotoscoping.

Object Removal & Clean Plating

Automatically remove unwanted elements, wires, rigs and tracking marks with ease.

mocha Pro’s Remove Module is an amazing alternative to traditional clone and paint techniques for getting rid of unwanted pixels and removing objects. It automatically detects and blends pixels from other frames with little user input, offering massive time savings. mocha Pro’s clean plate functionality imports and corrects fixed frames for digital beauty work and matte painting.

3D Camera Solver

Camera tracking for 3D visual effects.

Solve 3D match moving capabilities with planar ease. Unlike feature based tracking, mocha solves the 3D camera based on user-selected planes. This fast and easy-to-use solution is ideal for set extensions, 3D text and particle tracking. Additionally the 3D solver can be used to assist other 3D tracking applications on difficult shots with low detail or significant foreground occlusions.

Stereoscopic 3D

New tools optimized for stereo 3D projects.

mocha Pro 4 has been updated to support native stereo 3D. This new workflow uses planar tracking analysis on “both eye views” to reduce manual offsets and tedious keyframe work on stereo 3D rotoscoping, tracking, 3D camera solve and object removal.

Lens Module

Calibrate, correct and remove lens distortion.

This simple and easy-to-use interface allows users to calibrate the distortion introduced by camera lenses. Unwanted lens distortion can be removed or matched for realistic compositing. Export to the free mocha Lens plug-in for After Effects or export distortion map data for Nuke, Flame, Fusion and more*.

Stabilize Module

Smooth camera jitter and lock down shots.

The stabilize module can lock down camera motion or stabilize moving objects for visual effects and finishing work. A smooth option with selectable anchor frames helps reduce high frequency jitters while maintaining original camera motion. Center, scale or crop stabilized footage based on user driven planar tracking.

Insert Module

Render match moves and screen inserts with motion blur or mesh warp distortion.

The Insert Module allows you to render an image onto a tracked surface within mocha Pro. Powerful mesh warp distortion tool allows the user to wrap and bend inserts onto non flat surfaces. Combines with Lens Module for realistic VFX compositing on distorted footage.
